A Zombies Life

Proverbs 1:7

I was reading my Bible today and felt it was past time to start reading Proverbs as I had promised a friend that I would. Sometimes I have a hard time deciding if something is good for me to do or be involved in. I look at different peoples lives and wonder how they got into the mess they’re in or how great someone’s life must be. As I read chapter one of Proverbs, verse 7 jumped out at me. ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.’ I am a student of mixed martial arts, (mma), and I have learned a thing or two about discipline. It’s tough to get from where you are to a better place. Conditioning your body is tough, especially when it’s been let go for so long. As I thought about this verse, I wondered why the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I came to the conclusion that, as with my mma instructor, we must realize that the Lord knows more about everything than we ever could know. This fear is more respect than anything. Once we realize that God is all wise, we can either choose to follow His advice or not. If we decide to follow His advice, it will be tough at times because we want to do things our way. The contrast are the fools who despise wisdom and discipline. They feel as though they know it all and don’t want to do what’s necessary to change. Trust me, once you find the right way of doing things, it’ll be tough and you may wake up sore the next morning, but it will be well worth it once you reap the benefits.
